Wine Glass Charms

Wine Glass Charms

We don’t have guests over a lot, but when we do, we drink. Sometimes glasses get mixed up, laughs exchanged and life goes on.

But I have to confess: I have cootie issues. They’re not as bad as they used to be, but I really have a problem knowing someone drank out of my glass. I don’t want to offend anyone by pouring my drink out (or wasting wine for that matter), so I figured it would make a whole lotta sense to make wine glass charms.

Once upon a time I had a serious collection of beads. With my diminishing desire to make necklaces, said bead collection was weened and is now practically non-existent. Ironically though I had TONS of wine corks. Like… we would put the local wine shop to shame.

I figured making charms out of the wine corks just made too much sense. With a little bit of wire, Mod Podge, paint and super glue, I have a whole new set of 12. If you have 12 different corks, you can skip the painting step and go right to gluing and attaching. I think the paint adds a little pizzazz though.

Supplies

  • Wine corks
  • Acrylic paint
  • Mod Podge
  • 22-gauge wire
  • Super glue
  • Pliers

Mix the Mod Podge with acrylic paint to create different colors for each cork. Paint the cork with a thin layer of the Mod Podge/paint mixture. Allow to completely dry.

While the corks dry, create 12 simple wire loops with the wire. With the same spool of wire, create a spiral by wrapping about a 6″ piece around an extra cork or other round object you can slip the spiral off of easily. Make a simple wire loop on one end of the spiral.

Once the corks are dry, take one of the simple wire loops, dab it with a little super glue and insert it into the top of the wine cork. Allow the glue to dry.

When the glue is dry, attach the spiral to the wine cork using pliers (for instructions on how to properly attach the spiral, watch this video). Attach the charm to a wine glass and adjust the loops as necessary with the pliers to hang freely.

Yes… we drank at least 12 different bottles of wine.

  7. Great idea! I have seen so many cute things to make with wine bottle corks. I have friends saving me theirs! Thanks for coming over and linking up at the Create it or Bake it, Hope to see you again next Tuesday!

  8. What a neat idea! I love it. By the way, if I have bottled water that I’m drinking at home, I always write my initials on it with a marker. I don’t want anyone drinking out of my water.

  9. This is clever! I’m a bit of a cooties person as well. I only don’t mind drinking off of hubby but I don’t like using his plate that wasn’t cleaned to make mine. That grosses me out for some reason lol. Thanks for adding this to Countdown in Style. :)
